Yuletide~A Time of Rebirth

The winter solstice is upon us. It is a time of year when little happens on the surface of the Earth. Deep in the Earth, however, the roots are putting out shoots getting ready for the push toward life in Spring. This is the season of rebirth.

Ideas, dreams, and visions begun now will grow in power and strength in parallel with the waxing of the Sun’s strength and nurturing warmth as it begins its journey toward the summer solstice.

Holiday celebrations this time of year serve to bring a little chaos into what is a time of stillness in nature. A lot of energy goes into the holidays. Most people know that it’s time to stop and celebrate. Evergreens are brought indoors to symbolize everlasting life. Red holly berries represent the life-blood of the female while white mistletoe berries represent male energy.

Now I would like to share some natural healing tips. You can beat the winter blues with St. Johns Wort.  Try antiviral teas such as rosemary, sage, and thyme. Boost your immunity with echinacea, bay berry or olive leaf. Onions and garlic added to meals will boost your immune system as well. You can also add citrus fruit for extra vitamin C. You can make your own chest rub with tea tree oil and lavender.

If you don’t get as much exercise as you would like this time of year, your circulation is probably sluggish. Take turmeric and cinnamon to stimulate circulation. You can also massage with the essential oils rosemary, black pepper, or ginger.

Winter is a great time for reflection and spiritual renewal. It is a good time to meditate, assess goals, values and relationships.

So, friends, enjoy the season. It is a time of special events, special music, and a time of rebirth.

Great comfort food suggestion: eat some happy rebirth cake!

My home which gives me shelter.

My dogs…found abandoned you give unconditonal love.

My friends…who nourish my heart and soul. I am especially thankful for my new younger friends who give me a sense of family, energy and a fresh new perspective on the world.

Plenty of food that nourishes my body and gives me good health.

My hope, wish, and desire for you all is that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope you are surrounded by those you cherish most in your life. Time For Change?

Well, it is time to change our clocks again. I for one really like going back to standard time. I am a morning person, and I don’t like it dark in the morning.

Autumn  is a time of harvesting and preparation. It is a time to reflect on your life and to start making plans for the future. The plants wither and their energy goes into the Earth. The leaves turn golden symbolic of the sinking Sun. Just like the trees, we should take this time to nurture our roots. This is also a time for us to plant our ideas in our unconscious until spring.

Autumn often brings sudden temperature changes which can make you feel lethargic and run down. Cooler weather and heated rooms encourages viruses to breed leading to a great chance of getting sick. What will help? Tea tree oil can help boost your immune system. Echinacea tea can help your immune system as well. Ginger and juniper oils can be beneficial in improving circulation and reduces the inflammation that causes your joints to hurt. To maximize vitality and energy give citrus oils and spicy aromas a try. There are a variety of foods that are great this time of year. My favorite is apples. They are a great purifier. Packed with vitamin C, this is a good time for berry fruits. And what could be better this time of year than home-made soup? If you are really up far an adventure, I understand you could pick some wild sloes and make sloe gin. However, where one would find sloes or how to make sloe gin is unknown to me, but it sounds like a great project to try.

This is a very exciting time of year. The holday season is just around the corner. It is a big time to get together with family and friends (back to our roots). There is  a lot of shopping to do. There is also a lot of cooking and baking. Yum! If with all of this activity and with in-laws coming you need help getting your home cleaned, I invite you to give the Pure Cleaning Agency a call. We are a referral agency for green house keepers. The house keepers service most of San Diego county. Halloween Fun Facts

Happy Halloween from the Pure Cleaning Agency!

Halloween…All Hallows Eve the night before All Saints Day a pagan tradition the Church took over – “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” What is now Halloween was an ancient harvest festival, Samhain, on November 1st. It was believed that on this day the gods would be visible to humans. It was also believed that the souls of the dead would visit and bring messages in dreams. Fortune tellers thought this was a good time to predict future events.

Trick or Treat: This started out as a tradition of leaving food out for the hungry dead who were deprived of food. It was believed that if  given food, the spirits would leave everyone alone. Thus, “trick or treat” was born.

Dunking for Apples: A tradition rooted in good fortune. The more apples you could get, the better your luck would be. If a maiden was able to snag an apple, she was sure to be married within a year.

Bonfires: These fires served many purposes.  One purpose was  in hopes that the sun would come out and stay for longer periods of time so that the harvest would yield more crops. These bonfires attracted mosquitos which in turn attracted owls and bats whch became incorporated into All Hallows Eve. These fires were also lit to ward off evil spirits. Another hope for these fires was to encourage fairies to come out of their mounds and walk among them. Many believe that this is why we dress up – to become something we aren’t . Donning costumes and masks is also believed to confuse or frighten away evil spirits.

Jack-O-Lanterns: The Irish and Scottish started this tradition as part of their harvest celebrations. Originally they carved faces in turnips and potatoes, but when they came to America, they began carving pumpkins as well. The lighting of a candle showed the souls of the departed where to go and was protection against evil spirits as well.

Halloween was believed to be the easiest time to contact the dead because the veil between two worlds of the living and the dead was supposedly at its thnnest.

If after Halloween you have a few cobwebs to get rid of, remember the Pure Cleaning Agency serves central San Diego as well as North County. You can contact us at www.purecleaningagency.com , at service@purecleaningagency.com or call us at 619.795.4494. Cheers!

It’s Flu Season

Here is a Pure and simple way to prevent the flu. In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people a doctor came upon a farmer’s house where everyone was quite healthy. The wife told the doctor that she had placed an unpeeled onion in every room of the house. The doctor took one of the onions back to his office and examined it under his microscope. When he did, he found the flu virus in the onion. The onion  had absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy. Another person had contacted pneumonia and cut off both ends of an onion and put it in an open jar and placed it next to her bedside. In the morning, the onion was black from the germs and the lady felt better.  In a final story, onions and garlic were placed around rooms saved many from the black plague years ago. Both have antibacterial and antiseptic properties. When placing onions about, they need to be changed by the time a shoot grows out of them to the length of 7-8″.

Left over onions are poisonous. The first thing officials look for in food poisoning cases is when were onions last eaten. Many times we think it is the mayonaise. However, all commercially made mayonaise is completely safe. It does not even have to be refrigerated. The pH in mayonaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. Onions, especially uncooked, are huge magnets for bacteria. You should be very careful of onions you may find at an outdoor vendor like at a ballpark.  If you want to save an onion which is cut open it is best to keep it in the freezer. Otherwise, cook the onion well and you will be just fine. On a side note, do not share your onins with your dogs. Their stomachs cannot metabolize them.

I hope you find this information helpful and healthy.

As a reminder, it helps your health to keep a clean house.  Dust and mold etc. should be kept to a minimum. If any of you need help with your housecleaning needs, the Pure Cleaning Agency does now serve most of San Diego county. The Green Garden

We here at the Pure Cleaning Agency believe not only in green houscleaning but also in green yard maintenance. We would like to offer some gardening tips.

Weed Control: We all know that the easiest way to get rid of those nasty weeds is to spray them. I personally do not like to spray the weeds because I have dogs that I am afraid will get sick from the chemicals. Not only that, but the chemicals get into the groundwater, lakes, rivers and ocean. Prevention is the best defense. For me, I have added rocks to my yard. They actually make the flower bed area really stand out. You can put down the weed barrier fabrics without the rocks then add mulch. The mulch has the added benefit of keeping your watering needs down. For the few weeds that do pop up, pulling them out by hand should be all that you really need. As for the weeds in the sidewalk and driveway, try pouring vinegar on them. If you really need to spray, look around, and you can find some organic sprays.

Insect Control: Sometimes the problem is out of hand before you know it, and you do not want to lose any plants.  Once again, the easiest answer is to spray. These chemicals however will not only kill the enemy bugs, but will also harm good insects like ladybugs and birds. You can pick off some insects. I like to spray with soap. You can get beneficial insects like ladybugs to add to your yard. I personally like attracting birds to my yard. Let them feast. Once again, if you look around, you can find organic sprays.

Watering: Well, Fall is officially here. There will hopefully be some rain coming our way. I hope not too much because I like my sunny days, but I do like enough rain to keep my water bill down. To really be a green gardener, one should collect that beautiful water. For every inch on 1000 square feet on the roof, you can gather 600 gallons of water.

OK my friends, Happy Gardening!

The Green Yard

When I think of  Fall, I think of two things. I think of school starting and of fire danger. Well, school has started. There are things we can do do prevent fires and to protect our homes.

The first thing to do is to create space around the house. Every home needs what is known as defensible space. This is the space between your home and the landscape surrounding it.

The first zone around your home is 35 feet. In this zone, plants with the exception of  trees should not be more than 4 feet in height. Trees should not hang over the chimney. Roof and rain gutters should be free of leaves.

The second zone around your home is 65 feet. In this zone is the natural vegetation which should not be taller than 24 inches. You should remove as much dead wood and invasive plants as possible. Start by cutting down 50% of all plants over 2 feet in height to a height of 6 inches.Thinning should be prioritized as follows:

1) invasive non-native species     2) non-native species     3) flammable native species     4) native species     5)regionally sensitive species

After thinning, prune all plants that are left. Remaining plants 4-ft or more in height should be cut and shaped into “umbrellas” Non-woody vegetation that is under  4 feet in height, like coastal sage scrub, should be cut back to within 12 inches of the root crown.

Just as you keep your home clean, keep your yard clean.

We here at the Pure Cleaning Agency want to to announce that we are growing into North county. So if you live in North county inland or coastal contact us at service@purecleaningagency.com or 619.795.4494.

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day!

Wow!   Is  it that time of  year again?  Where did the summer go?

We here at the Pure Cleaning Agency are very proud of  the hard working ladies with whom we work.  Cleaning houses for several hours a day can be very demanding. I think these ladies are a true example of  the American worker…hard working, loyal, dedicated.

These ladies are independent workers who use our services to make a better life for themselves. Unlike employees, these ladies have the freeedom to operate independently. They are empowered to control their own working environment, schedule and income. With our help, they can make a living without needing to spend time and money getting customers, making appointments, doing follow-up care, or keep thourough records. That is our job. This is good for them as it gives them the opportunity to concentrate on doing the best possible job cleaning. It is good for their customers as well.

For their customers, it means flexibility in scheduling and services. It provides the option of requesting a different domestic worker anytime, and the peace of mind knowing that we have verification of legal authorization to work in the United States. We also do a background screening check.

We are in the process of  increasing our service area. Starting mid-September, we hope to help North County people to get their homes Pure clean. If  interested, contact us at service@purecleaningagency.com or 619-795-4494

In the meanwhile, have a great Labor Day weekend!

Cheers!

Hello Beautiful!

The Pure Cleaning Agency is about more than eco-frendly house cleaning. We are about your whole world. Today, I would like to give you some natural beauty tips for your skin.  As with any problems, it is better to fix what is wrong than to cover it up. Coverups always make things worse, and  the answer is not in a jar. That stuff can soften out skin so much it sags.  Believe it or not, most of us do not have dry skin, and do not  need moisturizing. Tightening our skin is key to beautiful skin.  So, here are a few basics:

1. pH…the natural state of the body is acid. Your skin is protected by acid. This protective layer is often destroyed by highly alkaline cleaning products and cosmetics leading to skin disorders. The answer is a pure cleaning of  the skin. Use plain soap and water. Start with a basin filled with hot water. This water should be just as hot as your hands can stand beng immersed in. This hot water does two things. It opens the pores and it stimulates your natural oil glands providing natural moisturizing. You want to to use natural  soaps. Avoid deodorant soaps and soaps with perfumes. After you lather up, you will rinse using the soapy water in the basin. You will want to rinse 30 times. Now that your face is clean, you will want to protect it with acid. Fill the basin with fresh hot water to which you will add a good amount of cider vinegar or lemon juice.  Now rinse again.

2.Provide your skin with a protective covering. On top of this acid rinse the skin still needs to be protected. One thing to use is water-based foundation. As for powder, look for something that is light and colorless. This powder should be applied thickly with a big wad of cotton. Let it sit for a minute then take a clean wad of cotton and buff. Make your face shine! You will have a natural, unpowdered look. No one had to know your secret.

3. Don’t touch! Your hands are not as clean as your face should be so don’t be depositing harmful bacteria on your face. Do not squeeze anything. No matter how large or small, any pimple that dares to show up should not be squeezed.

4. Pills, stimulation and rest all play a part in good skin health. We take many pills in our lives. And the Pill is one of the worst for skin care. Other bad pills are tranquilizers which cause dryness and intolerance to the sun. Too much stimulation in the form of coffee, alcohol, and cigarettes can wreck your skin. Too little sleep and too much tension also can damage your skin.

5. Eating good food can help. The best food for beauty is protein. Your skin, nails and hair are protein. So, you need to eat plenty. You also need to eat fats. If you eliminate all fats you will lose your glossy hair and youthful looking skin. What you want are the polyunsaturated fats that help your body to utilize those proteins. As for vitamins, you should eat foods high in vitamins A, B, C, D and E.  I also believe in taking kelp supplements. Kelp is rich in iodine which helps your thyroid. Low thyroid can cause dry skin.

Follow these simple tips and you will be a beautiful person inside and out…naturally.

And if you live in the central San Diego area and have house cleaning needs we can be reached at service@purecleanigagency.com or at 619.795.4494

Cheers!
